Our palliative care team includes registered nurses, home health aides, spiritual counselors, social workers, volunteers and physical, occupational and speech therapists. VNA Community Healthcare & Hospice is a nonprofit agency dedicated to community health and wellness. We have been a trusted resource for more than a century, providing home healthcare and wellness services, programs and events to benefit the people of our communities of all ages and in all stages of life. Our palliative services are a natural and important component of our continuum of care as we strive to be beside our patients at every turn.

Who we can help

Palliative care is care focused on quality of life for those living with a chronic illness or disease. It is beneficial for anyone suffering from side effects of curative treatments or simply those in need of pain and symptom management. Our palliative care program is aimed at getting these things under control so our patients are more comfortable and able to stay out of the hospital. We also help those struggling to cope as an illness progresses. Education as well as emotional and spiritual support are cornerstones of our palliative care program. Causes of discomfort and pain that we help alleviate include:

  • Shortness of breath
  • Inability to move around freely
  • Loss of appetite and nausea
  • Confusion about treatment plan or worry about the
    future, family and friends
  • Loss of interest in hobbies and activities, depression
or frustration with the impacts of illness

How we can help

We offer a plan of care comprised of palliative treatment done in conjunction with curative treatment our patients are receiving. Our services include pain and symptom management and a variety of supportive services. Our team of home healthcare professionals work together to provide an extra layer of support that includes:

  • Physical care
  • Support of spiritual needs
  • Emotional support
  • Pain and symptom management
  • Lower stress for you and your family

When we can help

Palliative care is designed to support patients and their families to improve quality of life and help alleviate the pain and symptoms of chronic illness as well as the side effects of treatment. Our services can be engaged at any point in an illness. Palliative care is not hospice care. Unlike with hospice services, patients receiving palliative care can continue curative treatments and do not need to be considered terminally ill.
