VNA Community Healthcare & Hospice representatives participated Dec. 18 in the Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce Health & Wellness Council’s annual Senior Gift Run.
The Council, comprised of community members, Chamber members, and parishioners from Mount Carmel Congregational Church, is chaired by VNACHCH Community Outreach Liaison Kim Vertrees.
For the 11th year in a row, Health & Wellness Council members placed gift boxes at local businesses to collect “gifts of warm” that were then distributed to Hamden senior citizens at a holiday party held at the Miller Senior Center.
The event was held this year as a drive thru due to the COVID-19 pandemic. About 40 senior citizens braved the cold and snow to pick up their gift bags containing toiletry items such as lotion, toothpaste, lip balm, hand sanitizer and masks, as well as activity books, snacks and a gift card to a local grocery store or pharmacy. The bags were handed out by Santa and his elves in the Senior Center’s decorated parking lot while carols played.
The town of Hamden Senior Services Department will distribute the left over gift bags to senior citizens in town who missed the event.
