Are you or a family member recovering from a stroke, brain trauma, injury to the vocal cords or problems with swallowing? VNA Community Healthcare & Hospice’s speech and language pathologists can work with you in your own home to improve communication. Call us for speech therapy when you:

  • are recovering from a stroke or other traumatic brain injury
  • have an ongoing medical condition that affects your speech or swallowing and has gotten worse, such as Parkinson’s disease
  • have dementia and are experiencing swallowing and choking problems

Your doctor will give us medical orders and oversee your care. Our speech therapists update your doctor on your condition and work with him or her to change your treatment plan, as needed.

Working with your therapist, you will create a “plan of care” to meet your personal health needs. Your plan will include regular speech therapy visits to:

  • provide exercises to address difficulty forming words or speaking clearly
  • teach you exercises to strengthen the muscles that control your swallowing
  • treat the effects of brain injury, such as improving memory, focusing on reasoning and organizational skills and working on social skills
