Pregnancy is an exciting time but also a time of many questions, concerns and changes. VNA Community Healthcare & Hospice’s experienced team of maternal child health nurses brings care, answers and strategies to reduce stress, right to your home. Call us for visiting nurse services when you:

  • Require careful monitoring of high blood pressure
  • Need in-home care for a high-risk pregnancy
  • Must learn to self-administer injections
  • Have a baby who was born prematurely or who has health risks
  • Are recovering from a C-section
  • Have more one or more newborns
  • Need information on formula or coaching on breastfeeding techniques

Your OB/GYN doctor or pediatrician will give us medical orders and oversee your care. Our nurses update your doctor on the condition of you and your baby and work with him or her to change your treatment plan, as needed.

Working with your nurse, you will create a “plan of care” to meet everyone’s (mom and baby’s) personal health needs. Your plan will include regular nursing visits to:

  • Provide infant care and information about feeding, safety, growth and development
  • Check on wound healing after a C-section
  • Discuss postpartum “blues”
  • Instruct on breastfeeding and breast care
  • Care for the birth cord and circumcision and explain when to bathe the baby
  • Provide Synagis injections to premature babies to prevent a serious respiratory virus
