Position Title: Commercial Billing & Collections Specialist

Program: Guilford

Position Type: Full-Time


  1. Performs all duties in compliance with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations, as well as with the VNA’s code of ethics and policies and procedures at all times.
  2. Supports and promotes the principles of respectful workplace values in all interactions with patients, patient’s family members, other employees, vendors or visitors.


  1. Prepares and submits claims to assigned payer sources:
    • Researches and resubmits all claim denials from payer source
    • Responsible for adhering to all claim processing procedures
    • Prepares draft claims for review and final approval
    • Maintains patient account file, including any changes to demographics, etc.
    • Participate in meetings to create proactive methods of claim processing

2. Conducts effective collection efforts to maintain current aging requirements

  • Performs collection efforts via phone and letter submission
  • Maintains and documents all oral and written correspondence with payer sources
  • Responsible for updating and creating tracking reports for outstanding balances and/or complex accounts
  • Makes recommendations and prepares documentation for patient balance adjustments and write offs
  • Communicates with appropriate clinical staff to resolve complex claim issues
  • Processes prior period adjustments
  • Update and modify time log in Allscripts
  • Participate in monthly meetings to review account status
  • Follow up with Clinical Staff on claims processing issues
  • Other duties as assigned




  1. High school diploma or GED
  2. At least two years of patient billing/insurance experience
  3. Homecare billing experience is preferred
  4. One year of general computer experience, preferably in Allscripts, WORD and Excel
